We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that’s the way it’s supposed to be. We know things are bad – worse than bad. They’re crazy. It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don’t go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is: ‘Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone.’
But we know it’s not supposed to be like this. We are the ones who can change it, if only we had the will. We must stand together and fight for our rights, and demand that our leaders take action to make our world a better place. We must speak out against injustice and inequality, and work together to create a society where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. Together, we can make a difference.
We all know things are bad — worse than bad — they’re crazy.
It’s a sad state of affairs when people feel like they can’t go out and enjoy life. We’re all stuck in our homes, trying to make the best of it, but it’s hard to find joy in such an uncertain time. We just want to be left alone so we can have some semblance of normalcy. We want to be able to watch TV, eat toast, and drive our cars without fear of what might happen if we venture outside. It’s a scary world out there right now, and all we can do is hope that things will get better soon.
Well, I’m not going to leave you alone.
I want you to get mad!
All I know is that first you’ve got to get mad.
You’ve got to say, “I’m a human being, god damn it! My life has value!” So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!”
You’ve got to say, “I’m a human being, god damn it! My life has value!”
Then you’ve got to get organized. You’ve got to stand up and speak out. You’ve got to find allies and build coalitions. You’ve got to fight for your rights, no matter how hard it is or how long it takes. And you have to keep fighting until you win.
You’ve gotta say,
“I’m a human being, goddammit! My life has value!”
The best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to practice social distancing, wear a face mask when in public, wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching your face, cover your coughs and sneezes, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, and stay home if you are feeling sick.
“I’m free!”
Everyone in the room got up out of their chairs and went to the window. They opened it and stuck their heads out, then yelled in unison, “I’m free!”
“I’m as mad as hell,
and I’m not going to take this anymore!!”
I’m sorry, that was not very nice. Please forgive me.
